Jamie Williams

Jamie is currently reading for a Ph.D. in Geography at Swansea University, which is investigating climate-vegetation-hydrological interactions. He also works part-time as a consultant for Environment Systems, complementing his academic studies with practical project based experience.

Jamie has previously gained a BSc in Environmental Science and MSc in Managing the Environment and specialised in river catchment processes and management. Prior to this he worked in retail management where he gained many transferable skills which he utilises on a daily bases.

Jamie has a sound knowledge of GIS and many geo-processing packages and promotes the use of open source software where he can.  He is a regular user of the R programming language and Python scripting language.

Jamie has been involved with several projects including:

  • Phase 1 habitat mapping of the Scottish borders area, using imagery from airborne and satellite sources.
  • Tweed habitat network identification, using his specialist ecological knowledge of habitat characteristics and advanced GIS methodologies.

Jamie is currently a member of the British Ecological Society and an Associate member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences, where he is working towards Chartered Environmentalist status.
