Environment Systems, a leading edge geographic and environmental information consultancy, is looking to build on our existing internal register of prospective candidates for map-based digitising projects.

Each year Environment Systems undertake a variety of projects that involve short and medium term digitising of map-based information for use in a geographic information system (GIS).  We use our internal register to fill these roles within the company as and when they arise.  We want to refresh this list and would welcome new applications.  Salary is competitive and depending on the length of project will either be on an hourly basis or on an annual pro rata rate.  The projects are typically based in our Aberystwyth office, but occasionally could be based around other part of Wales or the UK.

What will you be doing?

  1. Capturing real world features from map, air photo and/or satellite imagery using GIS software
  2. Editing GIS-based data – points, lines, polygons, text
  3. Interpreting maps, air photos and/or satellite imagery
  4. Working to deadlines and following carefully laid out procedures and quality criteria

What skills do you need?

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Good understanding of maps and spatial information
  • Consistency in your work with a commitment to quality
  • Ability to see projects through to completion
  •  Experience of using aerial photography and other imagery
  • Experience of using GIS or graphics-style software for digitising
  • Knowledge of land cover, land use or agriculture would be advantageous

Application details

If you are interested in joining the register and have the necessary skills please submit a covering letter with your CV clearly setting out your relevant experience to sarah.bowen@envsys.co.uk.  Interviews will take place either at the initial stage of inclusion on the register or before contracting of specific project work.  Relevant training will be provided before starting any project.   Due to the nature of our client base, candidates may be required to undertake and successfully pass a UK security check before being considered for certain projects. Appointment to the register does not guarantee the candidate any work.

You are only eligible to apply for this position if you hold a passport from an EU country or you possess a valid UK work visa.  No agencies please.
