Practicalities of Climate Change Conference

Environment Systems presented at the recent IEEMS conference on Practicalities of Climate Change: Adaptation and Mitigation.

Dr Katie Medcalf and Johanna Breyer presented a paper, "Monitoring and Evaluating Auto Ecological Changes in Grassland Communities due to Climate Change, Using Remote Sensing Techniques".

“Ecologists are increasingly noticing and recording climate induced changes in the environment. Remote sensing will play a key role in monitoring and evaluating these changes to the landscape and especially community distribution. It is therefore vital that the potential of this technique is recognized and fully utilised within the ecological sector. “ says Johanna Breyer, PhD Research Scientist.

Johanna is studying for a PhD, investigating the use of a range of airborne and spaceborne remote sensing data to analysis the structure, biomass and floristic composition of vegetation in Wales in 3D.   The PhD is jointly funded by Environment Systems, University of Wales Aberystwyth and Welsh European Funding Office.
